Scientific rationale

These days, asteroseismology faces new challenges with the high-quality and large volume of data coming from space satellites like CoRoT and Kepler, and foreseen space missions like PLATO.

The Iberian Community (IC) works actively on the analysis and modelling of the photometric space data for different types of pulsators, complemented with ground-based photometric and spectroscopic observations. The IC is also investing a lot of effort in developing the theory, the tools for the analysis, and ground-based instrumentation to fully benefit from the science return of present and future space missions.

For this reason, the general topic of the 4th Iberian Meeting is proposed as "Ground-based activities as support of space missions". It is intended to guide the discussions around photometric and spectroscopic ground-based observations, the developement of ground instrumentation, the implementation of analysis tools, and around stellar modelling, always in a space asteroseismology-Era framework.

Some topics to be covered may be:

- Ground-based and space characterization of A-F stars
- Exoplanets around pulsating A-F stars
- Searchs for exoplanets around M-dwarf stars
- Pulsations in low-mass stars
- High resolution visible and NIR spectroscopy
- Plato: general description and working packages for the asteroseismology community
- VO as a tool for asteroseismology
- Analysis of photometric space data
- New ground-based instrumentation: CARMENES, SONG, ESPRESSO

The meeting will consist on a series of presentations carried out during the first day aimed at boosting discussion between all the participants. All PhD students are requested to give a short talk on their work in a relaxed atmosphere. The rest of the meeting is devoted to hands-on work on these subjects. If you would like to propose any specific 'hands-on' work, please contact the LOC (iberian.meeting4 at gmail.com) as soon as possible.
